Presentation Description:

Disability impacts approximately 25% of our client families across all demographics. Social Security disability benefits can provide an important cash inflow to clients who face unexpected and unusual expenses to support a family member with a disability. Moreover, a Social Security Administration adjudication of disability paves the way for clients with disabilities to access other types of Federal and State benefits. This presentation will provide a clear and concise education on the process the SSA uses to determine disability in adults so that advisors can speak with more confidence and direct clients to better resources when disability impacts their financial plan.

3 Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the different types of disability benefits available through the Social Security Administration (SSI, SSDI, CDB, DWB).

2. Understand the Social Security Administration's 5-step sequential evaluation process for determining if disability exists for a client.

3. Understand the resources that clients can employ to assist them through the disability application process and in managing disability benefits.
