Over the last few years, clients have faced significant uncertainty. There are serious proposals which would up-end established best practices for estate planning and massively increase the cost and complication of wealth transfer. While change seems certain, pinning down the exact timing and challenges remains elusive.

Moreover, the efforts to curtail abuse continue to increase costs and uncertainty. Staying current with compliance issues, developing creative solutions for clients, and avoiding traps for the unwary is as important as ever.

This workshop will cover the most important new reform proposals, regulations, guidance, and case law. This includes recent developments to the income tax code broadly, fiduciary income tax, the taxation of capital, IRAs and qualified plans, and the estate tax. Planning ideas that work well in the current environment will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand recent developments in estate planning
  • Analyze how changes apply to your client
  • Create new solutions for your client
  • Learn how to identify the pitfalls of certain estate planning decisions in relation to new proposals and regulations.
