Executive clients are complicated. They don’t just have a few W-2’s and 1099’s to consider when tax season rolls around. They are dealing with tax issues throughout the year, including when to exercise stock options, how to make elections around restricted stock, and even when to take money out of their company. Using practical examples and discussion, we will discuss how executives can defer income, utilize elections, and reduce their income tax bill on April 15th.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify when an executive should make a Section 83(b) election
  2. Recognize when paying a bonus is a better than taking a distribution or dividend from a company
  3. Recall when a nonqualified stock option may yield a better tax result than an Incentive Stock Option
