Practical Financial Planning is seeking a Part-Time-to-Full-Time Intern/Paraplanner. This is an exciting opportunity for a positive, enthusiastic candidate to build a significant role in a small but well-established fee-only financial planning firm.

Practical Financial Planning is a comprehensive fee-only financial planning firm with offices in suburban Cleveland, Ohio. We focus on every major aspect of the client’s financial life including taxes, asset allocation, investment selection and maintenance, record keeping, insurance, estate planning and retirement planning. Our fiduciary approach focuses on one question: What is in the best interest of the client?

Practical Financial Planning serves professionals in the public sector, independent professional women, and medical professionals among others. We are members of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors and the Alliance of Comprehensive Planners.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, robust computer skills, an entrepreneurial mindset that will help shape the business in becoming more efficient and successful, and an eagerness to learn and develop expertise in new subjects. Strong writing skills are required. Studies toward the Certified Financial Planner™ designations are preferred. The position is part-time, with the expectation of expansion to full-time as the candidate’s skills and the firm’s needs increase.

Responsibilities include basic and increasingly responsible paraprofessional support for a comprehensive financial planning practice. The industry is subject to strict regulatory standards, but benefits from creative and innovative thinking. The position involves significant interaction with clients and the ability and initiative to work independently. As the business and the candidate’s skills grow, the Intern/Paraplanner can earn the opportunity for professional advancement within the firm.

Performance requirements include:

Attending planning meetings and assessing the hierarchy of tasks to be accomplished

Taking initiative on major long-term projects, such as documenting systems and workflows

Maintaining a cordial and professional demeanor in all client and team interactions

Note-taking during client meetings and drafting written client recommendations based on those notes

Conducting and assisting with research and compiling data for background work that supports the development of client recommendations and office operations

Learning and using software for income tax preparation and planning, portfolio and investment analysis, and other financial planning applications

Proofreading documents

Responding to client communications

Other duties as apparent or assigned

Must be a non-smoker/non-tobacco-user.
