Intro to the Financial Planner Job Description

Experience Your Wealth, LLC (EYW) is looking to add a CFP® professional with 7+ years of industry experience and 3+ years of experience leading client engagements that have equity compensation and are small business owners. This is a unique opportunity to lead client engagements in the near future, without the requirement to bring in your own clients, and to help mold the future growth of EYW, all while working in a way that supports your ideal lifestyle.

This is a full-time and entirely remote W-2 position. We are the opposite of the “9-5” corporate structure. You make your own hours during the week assuming clients’ needs are being met and there is sufficient collaboration with the team. You can work from anywhere with a strong internet connection (Antarctica doesn’t have internet… we’ve tried).

EYW is an equal opportunity employer with a commitment to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion among its employees and clients.

• Participate in existing client meetings and take detailed notes; involvement and responsibility in meetings will rapidly increase with the hopes of independently leading client engagements in 12 – 18 months.

• Communicate directly with clients via email and client task dashboard via MeisterTask

• Learn and manage operational aspect of assigned clients (ex - input data into various systems, eMoney set up/maintenance, etc.) until future support staff is added

• Communicate directly with First Ascent re: account openings, cash transfers, investment strategy, etc. until future support staff is added

• Learn and tweak established EYW workflows and processes

About EYW

Hi there! My name is Jake Northrup, CFP®, CFA, CSLP®. I founded EYW in 2019 to bring fee-only financial planning to travel-loving young families who want to experience their money throughout their life and not just in “retirement” – hence the firm name! I also wanted to build a firm that supports our dream lifestyle so we can be present with family/friends, travel extensively and have no “9-5” structure controlling our time.

EYW is completely virtual, paperless and we work hard, but play hard as well. I hate talking about myself, but you should probably know that I’ve been named to the Investment News 40 Under 40 List, an Investopedia Top 100 Financial Advisor, a Business Insider Top 23 Financial Planner for Millennials and a Financial Advisor Magazine Young Advisor to Watch. I’ve been fortunate to learn from some of the best in the industry and I’m excited to closely train and mentor the new talent that comes to EYW. You can read more about EYW’s journey in the Kitces.com article that I wrote here: https://www.kitces.com/blog/launch-fee-only-financial-planning-firm-ria-cost-niche-vision-setting-marketing-sales-clients/

We operate using EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) to help us create a transparent, organized and structured work environment. Our goal is to be a boutique firm that provides unparalleled service to clients, while also supporting our team to live their own ideal lifestyle. Kids’ soccer games come first; work comes second.

Our company core values are:

• We provide a high-touch, personalized experience to clients

• We always treat clients and team members as we want to be treated

• We first live our ideal life so we can then help clients live theirs

• We encourage flexibility, freedom and being untraditional

• We are always open and honest; there are no professional secrets at EYW

• We whole-heartedly love what we do

Our 5-year target is to be a team of 5 with 160 clients and a gross annual revenue of $1.1 million. We love what we do and have the lifestyle flexibility to live our own ideal lives, while always providing an unparalleled level of service to our clients.

We are far from your “traditional” financial planning firm. Here’s how -

• We have a heavy emphasis on life planning to help our clients visualize and articulate their ideal life so we can better advise how they can align their financial decisions with their life.

• We heavily utilize modern technology to make our work efficient, both internally and externally, as we collaborate with clients.

• We focus on proactive financial planning and outsource investment management to a firm called First Ascent. This frees up our time to help clients actually “do shit”.

• We are organized and process driven. Why? Well… we have bad memories which means everything (and I mean everything) gets documented.

• We implement surge meetings with clients 3x/year (Winter, Summer + Fall) so we can better plan our schedules.

• We are niche focused. Our ideal client is travel-loving young families who don’t buy into the “9-5, work-until-you’re-65” concept. The majority of our clients have some/all of the following -

     o >$200,000 in household income

     o Young kids

o Equity compensation (stock options, restricted stock, ESPP, etc.)

     o Current/aspiring business owner

     o >$100,000 in student loans

• We have no minimum investment asset requirement which means we are able to work with clients at the beginning of their financial journey. We charge an annual fee starting at $5,000/year which then scales up as a client’s income and net worth increases.

Next Steps to Apply

• The application deadline is Friday, August 19th. At this point, we will reach out to schedule first round interviews with candidates.

• Please send a) your resume and b) a quick video answering the following questions to jake@experienceyourwealth.com:

o What’s your experience like in financial planning up to this point?

     o Why financial planning?

o Why are you interested in working with Experience Your Wealth?

o Why are you interested in the remote and flexible hours that this job entails? What will this allow you to do?

• P.S. – Be genuine in your answers. We don’t want boiler-plate answers and we don’t want you to feel the need to be ultra-professional. Our hope is to understand you, what excites you about this role/industry and how this role can fit into your ideal life. A video taken with your phone and/or computer is totally fine. I’m uncomfortable in front of video too… don’t worry ??.
