Derek Van Calligan is a wealth advisor and director of investment research at Allodium Investment Consultants. He has spent his career as an advisor building holistic financial plans for individuals and families, and he believes that being objective is the best way to deliver financial advice. Derek became a shareholder in the firm in 2024. He also chairs Allodium’s Fiduciary Consulting Committee and serves on the Financial Planning, Investment and Client Service Committees.
Additional Information
Derek earned a Bachelor of Science in personal finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Shortly after graduation, he became a CFP® professional having obtained the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER(TM) certification sponsored by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. He has also been awarded the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) Designation, sponsored by the Center for Fiduciary Studies, to help him better serve clients.
To further his professional development, he earned the Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®) designation through the American College of Financial Services, as well as the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) certification, which is administered by the Investments & Wealth Institute and taught in conjunction with the Yale School of Management. In addition, he completed the Chartered SRI Counselor (CSRIC®) program administered by the College for Financial Planning to deepen his knowledge of sustainable and responsible investment strategies. This is a graduate level course designed to provide investment professionals with a foundation of knowledge of the history, definitions, trends, portfolio construction principles, fiduciary responsibilities, and best practices for sustainable, responsible, and impact (SRI) investments.
Prior to joining Allodium, Derek was a financial planner at a financial planning firm in Denver, Colorado, and served on the investment committee developing investment portfolios for clients.
Derek currently resides in Parker, Colorado, with his wife, Kelly. They enjoy spending time in the mountains, skiing, fishing, and hunting with their dog Hank. Derek is an active member of their church and volunteers his time with various organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and Junior Achievement.
