Bill grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs, became an Eagle Scout, and graduated from Transylvania College with a degree in History/Pre-Law. After service as a Lieutenant in the Marine Corps, he joined the professional ranks of the Boy Scouts of America for nine years; this included 4 years in Europe where he got to practice his French and German. He and his wife Karen moved to Charleston in 1981. They acquired an 1838 house that needed lots of love, slowly restoring it to its former glory. He has shared his leadership skills in community, regional, and national leadership roles. Regularly he sails the Branch Office in Charleston’s harbor. During the summer, he can be found hiking near their NC mountain cottage.
