Planning Specialties

I utilize an economics approach to financial planning that provides accurate targets for saving and spending throughout your life, as opposed to conventional rules of thumb. This means focusing on the big picture of how much you can afford to spend each and every year on your living standard. This approach delivers three main takeaways: 1) How much saving is necessary to support your highest sustainable living standard, 2) How much life insurance is required to maintain that living standard for your survivors, and 3) How much investment risk you can afford to take without putting undue stress on your living standard.

Additional Information

I started Lyon Financial Planning to help people solve problems and make strides towards their most important goals.

When I told my eldest daughter that I was starting a business, she immediately said, “How can I help, Dad?” This simple question is at the core of everything I do. With every client relationship, meeting and question, I ask myself how can I help.

I approach personal finance with a compassionate, yet disciplined and analytical mindset. Armed with a PhD in Applied Economics from the University of California, a background in economic consulting and fee-only financial planning, I deliver personalized and objective financial advice to help you reach your goals. I’m a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors and the XY Planning Network.

When not helping clients, you’ll find me outdoors with my family—cycling, hiking, camping, snowshoeing and gardening top the list. I’m on the board of the Waltham Fields Community Farm and a member of The Boston Economic Club.

The name L-Y-O-N comes from taking two letters from each of my daughters’ first names.
