Douglas King
Douglas S. King is a CFP® professional who has been in the financial services industry for over 34 years working as a financial planning practitioner, helping other financial advisors build successful financial planning practices and leading large and small financial services firms.
As president and CEO of Oakwood Capital Advisors, LLC, Doug leads a team of talented financial advisors who work with high-net-worth individuals and small business owners offering financial planning services focused on retirement planning, investment portfolio management, insurance and risk management, social security optimization strategies, tax management, and business consulting services. Doug is also the owner of Gardner Advisors, Inc., a Registered Investment Adviser firm, and Gardner Financial Services, Inc., an independent broker-dealer.
Prior to founding Oakwood Capital Advisors, LLC, Doug held senior-level executive positions at Merrill Lynch, Bank of America, Cetera Financial Group, and has led Registered Investment Advisory firms and an insurance marketing organization.
Doug earned two bachelor’s degrees, in finance and managementfrom Virginia Tech and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. He completed his CFP® certification in 1989 from the College for Financial Planning and holds Series 7, 8, 63 and 65 securities registrations.
Doug has always had a passion to give back to his community and profession. In addition to serving as a member of the CFP Board, he currently serves on the board of the Northern Star Council of the Boy Scouts of America. In the past, he has served and led numerous other boards such as the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, and Rotary International. He has been a Scoutmaster to his three eagle scout sons, has coached numerous youth sports teams and he is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA).
