Planning Specialties

Jim Waters, CFP has been refining his singular focus on the business of wealth management since 1984. He founded PartnersInWealth in 2000. The PartnersInWealth approach was created to provide straightforward, unbiased advice to financially successful households - bringing them peace of mind, security and confidence in their financial future.

As his clients' PersonalCFO, Jim serves as a trustworthy, single point of contact that financially successful households can count on. He serves as a sounding board for any financial issues, oversees their holdings and coordinates the efforts of their various financial advisors. He has significant expertise in many financial areas, such as investment management, tax reduction, insurance and estate planning, just to name a few.

Jim has more than 34 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to PartnersInWealth, he was an engineer with Bechtel Corporation, the largest privately-owned engineering-construction company in the world. While pursuing his MBA, he realized that financial planning was his calling and would grow to become his lifelong passion.

Jim has a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Clarkson University and an MBA from the Univeristy of Houston - Clear Lake.

Additional Information

Jim has been ranked one of the 150 Best Financial Advisors for Doctors by Medical Economics magazine and one of the Top 250 Wealth Advisors by Worth Magazine. Most recently, Texas Monthly has named Jim a Houston Five-Star Professional Wealth Manager numerous times. The firm is consistently ranked by the Houston Business Journal as one of the city's top wealth managers.

Jim was born to be outdoors. Raised in rural upstate New York, he was always playing, working or building something outdoors. Being outside is still important to him today and he fulfills this need mostly through physical fitness activities.

Jim and his wife Susan have two children, Ashley and Andrew. Susan is a native Houstonian and retired Registered Nurse. Ashley is a Teach for America program graduate and teaches underpriviledged 3rd graders at Yellowstone Academy. Andrew is a Financial Analysis with Aon Corporation.

For many years, Jim has managed the Giving Tree program at his church, which provides thousands of needy children with gifts during the holiday season.
