Karen R. Keatley is a Principal and the Chief Wealth Management Officer at Modera Wealth Management, LLC. Karen oversees Modera’s financial planning and investment management services. She is also a member of Modera’s board of managers and investment committee.

Karen has extensive experience as an economic analyst and investment manager. Prior to becoming a financial advisor, Karen served as Vice President at a large insurance company and managed a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of fixed- income and private equity investments. When she recognized that many people were in need of professional quality advice, she made the transition to investment management and financial planning for individuals, and founded her own wealth management firm in 2007. Karen’s firm merged with Modera in early 2020. Karen has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine, Kiplinger Personal Finance, MSN.com Money Central, Charlotte Business Journal, South Park Magazine, and other publications. She has been interviewed by local television and is often consulted as a subject matter expert. Karen also contributed to the book, Just Give Me the Answer$: Expert Advisors Address Your Most Pressing Financial Questions (Dearborn Trade Press, April 2004). Karen passionately believes that a fee-only approach is vital to ensure that advice is not influenced by a sales agenda.

Disciplinary and Ethics Commission, which is charged with the review and enforcement of the CFP® Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct. She has served on the board of directors and as the treasurer of the Women’s Impact Fund, a philanthropic organization which provides more than $400,000 of grant funding each year to non-profit organizations in Mecklenburg County. In her free time, Karen enjoys painting and golf. She has two adult children and lives in Charlotte with her husband of over 30 years. Karen served a three-year term as a member of the CFP® Board.
