Melissa M. Mayhew joined Strategent Financial in 2018 as an Associate and was promoted to Partner in January of 2021. Melissa is a Certified Financial PlannerTM professional and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a Master of Accounting Science degree from Northern Illinois University. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Dickinson College in 1995. Melissa began her professional career as a legal assistant for large corporate law firms in New York City and Raleigh, North Carolina from 1995 to 1999. Her corporate real estate experience led her to the Housing Authority for the City of Raleigh, NC where as a Special Assistant to the Executive Director, her primary functions included monitoring and oversight of internal program compliance as well as preparation of financial projections and coordination of closings for multi-million dollar mixed-use, mixed-finance housing redevelopment projects. When her husband’s job took their family to Illinois in 2008, Melissa decided to pursue a Master’ degree in Accounting to augment her practical experience in finance and accounting. Her husband’s job at JMU brought her back to the Harrisonburg area with her family in 2012. Upon her return, Melissa worked at the regional accounting firm, PBMares, LLP. She most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer of The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
